I have a motor home with 24 volt starting battery and alternater and want to charge the 12 volt battery that supplys power for lighting etc. How can i charge the 12 volt system using the motorhomes 24 volt charging system?

You would go to a auto or electronics shop and buy a 24V to 13.8V DC-DC power supply. They are intended to supply items like CB's etc from a 24v system.

18-wheel industrial truck suppliers should have a wide array of component choices

you moterhome should already be wired for 12 volts all the lights and assessorys are usually 12 volt I would check into that first then look at how your batterys are wired you should be able to pull 12 volts off one of them

Pulling off one of two 12v batteries series connected for 24v would be potentially damaging for the other battery in the string by excessive charging.

Sorry, the link only half worked, look under charge controllers, their models claim to charge 12 volt from 24 volt or other source voltages.

This I've wondered about a bit,,..??????

I have an extra 24 volt panel,, doing nothing!!!

I've thought about hooking it up Parallel to a 12 volt panel of similar Amps.

The 24 volt panel is only about 300mA,(7.2 Watts) but really charges up a 24 volt battery pack!

I think it is faster than my 10 Watt 12 volt panel.

(yes, this time test was done to the same batteries hooked up either way with the discharge being very close to the same. Solar Scooter pack ran down at 24 volts then charged up with July clear skies sunshine .)

I should really just set up a 24 volt bank but the only use I have for this voltage is in the scooter and its down for mods right now! LOL!

:)

If you are planning to run 12 volt independent from the 24 volt system, I think there are some 24 volt solar panels that can be configured for 12 volt.  You just have to move the jumpers inside the junction box of the panel, so the two strings of 36 cells are in parallel, instead of in series.
