Any Advice On Sine Wave Type
« on: March 29, 2008, 01:48:18 AM »
I have aquired 3 Tripplite Inverters model PV-1000 FC. I was told that they are pure sine wave inverters, but on the front of them it says "square wave". Anyone have any experience or knowledge on the sine wave type. I am wanting to use them to power my home and would like something safe for TV's, Stereo, computers, and microwave. Other than hooking them to an Oscilliscope, is there any other way to check them.

Forgot to note - close but not the exact model you noted .... may not be exactly the same but might give you an idea.

Don't have any direct experience with that unit but have had good luck with other TrippLite stuff.

I cant speak about the pv1000 but I have a pv 1200 and a pv1200fc, I cant run my microwave from either one but the tv's, stereo, skill saw, electric mower, most everything else runs fine, some drills work some don't , most of the drills that I have run from them run slower than grid power runs them, fans usually wont work unless I plug in an incandescent bulb at th same time then they run, anytime I've plugged in something they don't like it blows the fuses, but after replacing they still keep humming.

I would post a picture but the only one in my uploaded files is 140k, under the limit but big so ill just post a link.

My guess that they are MSW ( modified square wave)

If you read the output volts on a cheap ac multimeter and it is way low compared with the nominal rating then it is not sine wave.

Many things run ok, some don't run so well and occasionally something won't run at all or dies. Low tech things usually work fine but some clever things with power factor rectifiers such as sophisticated chargers and fluorescent ballasts just won't work.

Old style microwaves tended to work at reduced power, the modern ones with inverters may not go, that is the price we pay for better products, they need better supplies.

its a 1000w inverter even my small cheap microwave draws 950 watts most larger ones are 1500 watt or bigger i kinda doubt that inverter would run it no matter what....

I hooked one up and checked output voltage. 137 vac

I plugged in a 300 watt halogen light and the voltage dropped to 128vac.

Is this right for a pure sine wave or square wave inverter?

On the front it says "Power Inverter Square Wave"

"Square Wave" means square wave.

It is not pure sine wave.
