Ganging 2- 12 volt power supplies

Is it possible to combine 2 12 volt DC transformers in series to power a bank of 24 volt DC, PC fans. These are items I have laying around & would save the cost of buying new.


  The fans are 12V dc .25 amps, eight in total. The power supplies are 110 input 12 volt dc output @ 1.5 amps each. IF so would it just be a mater of splicing the output of both and hooking them up to the fans that would be hooked up in series.

I assume you mean the fans are 24v .25A if they are 12v there is no issue.


Yes you can connect the 2 power supplies in series on the dc side to get 24v. keep the mains sides in parallel.


If your figures are correct and you have 8 fans at .25A that comes to 2A. your power supplies are rated at 1.5A so you will not be able to run all 8 fans if they take the claimed .25A

Thanks Flux & yes the fans are 24V & .25 Amps  I assumed only 6 could be used

I would keep a very close eye on the power supply overheating if your going to run 6 of those fans.


personally I would run just 5 fans.
