Copper wire #12AWG, lots of wire
« on: April 17, 2010, 10:01:35 AM »
I know there will be some interest in this

Sorry about the focus, but believe me, this wire is real.
My  friend works for a company which manufactures UPSs somehow employing extremely large copper coils and flywheels. Anyway he sent me the spool of #12 AWG wire and I recently asked him how often he gets these 20-30 pounds spool ends. He said the company scraps 2 to 3 spools like this per week!
two to three spools per week which they sell as scrap?
We have to get this product to this group I said
Here I am posting it, I'll make the hook ups or get my buddy to register here so you can trade directly.

Cool I'll make sure he registers and posts some info on how to contact him. I do know he is in Texas, which is a gigantic state so we'll need exact location.
I've got the notify by email  feature switched on, so I will keep an eye on this thread

is there 20 or 30 lbs left on the rolls?

and is 12 gauge all he gets?

put me on the list of interested parties, most especially if he has access to lighter gauges as well.

This is the comment he left on my newsletter "We probably end up with around 50-80 lbs a week in scrap.   which is about 2-3 spools of what I sent you.  We just get the scrap copper recycling rate for it so I would be happy to sell it to someone who would use it.
Mackenzie"
I can't recall exactly the pounds as far as shipping either, guess 30 lbs
As far as I know, they use all #12AWG

haha, might even be funnier if my wife wasn't a grandma :o
I still haven't heard back from my buddy, understandable though, Sciatica has me in the worst mood, nobody wants to talk to me, I can't blame them. I went to a chiropractor this morning, then acupuncturist, then a regular doctor who prescribed physical therapy, and muscle relaxants, light at the end of the tunnel? Or a carrot in front of this old jackass?

I'm interested in this as well.
Does anyone know what the current scrap rate is for copper?

Just noticed that label says "bare" does that mean it is bare copper?

If so it will not be much use in winding coils?

Just noticed that.

Hey guys this is Brians friend.  I am the one that has this wire.  It is actually 14 AWG.  I have attached the datasheets we have on these.  The wire in the picture is made by Rea but we also use a couple of different manufacturers including Essex and Piremag but the wire all works the same and is used the same in our processes.

As you can see in the datasheets this is inverter grade wire.  We typically have 2-3 rolls with 20-30 lbs left on each roll that ends up getting scrapped each week.  I will find out our current scrap rate and would be happy to pass on as much of this wire as possible to this group.  I would rather see it being used to save the environment than get made into something else.

Please let me know if this wire will work.

Mackenzie,
It works for me. Thanks for posting.
Now all we need are the details.
How do you want to be paid????
How are you going to ship???
I assume (you know what that means) that the first one who responded to Bosses posting will be the first to receive
the wire and so on????
Am I also correct in thinking that  the price will follow the market, so if I want another spool in a month or so, it will be
at the then current price of scrap copper???
Can you tell us where you are in Texas so we can get an idea of shipping time???

Thanks

Ralph
