48 volt DC Jacobs Generator & Rohn Tower
« on: May 30, 2010, 06:09:16 PM »
1950's +/- DC Jacobs generator. Classic slow spinning heavy weight generator.

Rotor freshly rewound for 48 volts from the original 32 volts. Also rewound the field coils. New bearings. This is not a complete machine, does not have a governor. Have blades for blade actuated governor, slip rings/brushes, tail parts, post/saddle, lower bearing, upper bearing. Everything but the governor. $2500

Also have a Rohn SSV style freestanding 50ft tower. This is a used tower. Previously had a 10KW Jacobs grid-tied machine on it. 2-20ft section, 1-10ft section. Very good condition. $2500

Located outside of Idaho Springs, Colorado.

B529;

It is not really appropriate to join to post ads.

Just keep it at the 2 so far and we will look the other way.

Seriously.

Tom, did not mean to step out of bounds here. Been a few years since I posted under username dcjake, could seem to get logged in, so I re-registered. I'm not new to Otherpower, I have done some business with Scott and donated a set of used 10KW Jacobs blades which Dan put up on one of his machines.

curious, what size (or tower section number) are the 2 twenty foot sections?  just wondering how big it is to hold a 10kw turbine.

The bottom pad is stamped VL 348.

Rohn section part #"s, spread
Base 20'-7N68W, 6'6" bottom spread, 4'6" top
middle 20'-6N27W, top 2'6"
Top 10'-VG128, top 1'6"

I have the original foundation drawings.

I have this exact same tower up at my house, except an additional bottom 20' for a total of 70'. Have a Proven WT2500 on it. Recorded a 112.6 mph gust on it.

looks just like my rohn....wish i had that base section tho...my base is your middle section, and then my middle and top sections are no where near as heavy as your top.  my other 2 have solid round stock for the legs and solid rods for the cross pieces.  if i had your base and my base, that would be awesome....but then, i got the whole thing REALLY cheap so i can't complain.

defed,

in your PM a while back you mentioned you were not sure how you are going to build your stub tower. I couldn't figure out how to send this picture PM. Hope this gives you some ideas. This is designed for a Proven 2.5. It's a 3/4 plate, 5" scdl 40 pipe, 1/4 gussets with 1" solid rod welded to them. The pipe goes through the plate, welded on both sides. The flat stock with the holes is for a clip point when servicing the turbine. The clip point height was thought out, it's the height of my waist, allowing full reach to the turbine when clipped in. The key I believe is to have the force/load transferred to the leg pads, via the gussets. For a 10' machine I would simply use a the appropriate size pipe, 78-84 tall so the blade tip was at the top of the gusset, weld some pegs and clip points on the pipe to climb up to the turbine.

Also probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace your pad to pad bolts, who knows if they were over torqued. Cheap insurance.

Oops forgot to add the picture.

For 2K you can have the 7N section and I'll throw in the other sections and haul it to the east side end of Denver ;D
