switch mode power supply ??
« on: August 12, 2010, 01:08:58 AM »
as part of a purchase of some generator heads, i came upon a switch mode power supply

the specs

3phase input 208/240 at 50,60,400hz
output 5volts dc at 500amps

i can't imagine a use for them myself, mainly because i have no way of adjusting them up to something more
usable like 12,24 or 48volts

maybe someone in metal plating could put them to use?

any creative idea's here?

Mayby you could turn it into a rust removing tool for huge parts =) Like for an entire barge etc..

If it was single phase it would be fun to mess with.  No 3 phase here except in the "industrial" area in town. I need a 5 volt DC supply but only a few milliamps needed for it.

Toss it on FeeBay ;D

I sell the weirdest stuff on there.  Funny what folks will buy online you would never sell or even give away otherwise.

That would be a truly industrial strength USB power supply.

i couldn't think of a good use for it, and thought i would ask here first
before tossing it.

it might have some useful goodies inside, but quite frankly i am buried in useful goodies as it is.

guess i will put it under the bench and let it simmer there a while, who knows maybe in the next decade
i will come up with some use for it.

hang on to it.

I recently scored two, 4-6 vdc 300 amp single phase supplies on ebay for all of $50, was the sole bidder.
The input filter caps should be big enough to run it at >150 amps on single phase power
