smart charger and parallel batteries
« on: September 10, 2010, 12:13:11 PM »
i bought a smart charger and have charged up my extra batteries.
two automotive types and two marine deep cycle types.
can i wire them all  in parallel and keep them hooked up to the smart charger or will this lead to problems

I wouldn't, I'd keep em as seperate banks. In parallel the dissimilar batteries may have different voltages at full state of charge , the charger only sees one voltage when in parallel, so  a potential under charger/ over charge condition exists between the battery types. I'd be worried about over charging one of the sets.

I've did this on the boat a long time ago.... batteries had a much shorter life.
