Tower Question

I found a 65 foot latice tower that  was bought from a local city probly a radio tower , The listing says no guide wire needed free standing I called and he gave me some measurement but could not find the brand . He said the bottom was 30 inch triangle with inch and a half pipe and the top sections were inch and a quarter pipe and the total weight of tower is 3,500 pounds . Need some advise on this price is 500 cash .

Better check the weight of that tower....  65 feet x 3 legs x 3 pounds per foot (for 1.5 sched 40 pipe) is about 600 pounds.  The cross-members would double that... 1200 pounds.

Without knowing more, it sounds promising.  Heck, If my weight estimate is close, the steel is less than 50 cents per pound.  Take it on that basis alone!

It's always up to you to evaluate the integrity of the tower and decide that it's something you can use for your own projects and plans.  Nothing I can tell you about those things.

I would really like to know what to look for when i go look at it . It would be nice to do it without guide wires.

i have a rohn tower, (3) 20' sections.  the largest sections is about 5' spread at the base.  i forget the pipe diameter, 2" maybe, with 1.5" angle for the cross braces.  specs in the catalog list it as about 500 pounds for the assembled section.

the top 2 sections have solid rod (1.25" i think) for the legs and solid rod cross braces.  each of these is listed at around 500 pounds as well.

i suspect, in total, yours would weigh around 1500 pounds at most, like mine.  not sure that 30" base is big enough to free stand w/ a 10' turbine?

A 30" base is awful small for a freestanding 65' tower.

That base is too small for a free standing tower with anything other than an antenna or something light on it, I beleive the general rule of thumb is one foot of base for every 10 feet of height, so a 65 foot free standing tower built for any kind of weight on top would have a minimum of 6 1/2 foot base.

Im not planing on buying this one but I did go look at it and the bottom section was solid inch and a half bar the last to sections were regular tube .I ll keep looking
