can someone tell me the right way to secure a thimble to a guy wire where the gin pole is temporarily connected for rising.

 Put three cable clamps on the cable then thread it through your eye or turn buckle, then thread your short end through the cable clamps, remember "never saddle a dead horse" which means the u bolt goes around the over the short end of the cable, the saddle goes on the long part of the cable going to the other end.
Once you have a loop made through your eye or turn buckle then insert the thimble and just pull it snug, it's a good idea to wrap the cut end of the cable with electrical tape or heat shrink tube to keep it from coming apart and getting all nasty like.
