4Z525B - Ebay Steal!!!
« on: January 25, 2011, 07:53:08 PM »
I just got a used Dayton 4Z525B for 19.99 used on ebay. I tested it and with a flick of the wrist she puts out 6-10vdc and peaked at 1amp. Once I find a way to hook my drill up to it I'll report back for more.

Until then here are some stats:

Another ebay link of same motor: http://cgi.ebay.com/DAYTON-4Z525B-PERMANENT-MAGNET-DC-MOTOR-HP-3-4-RPM-1725-/150551926494?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230d9816de

And quoted from the above link -

Quote
HP: 3/4                                    ENCLOSURE: TEFC

RPM: 1725                               FRAME: NEMA 56C

TORQUE: 27.4 in-lbs                SHAFT: 5/8" DIA. X 1 7/8" L

VDC: 180 ARMATURE              SHAFT HEIGHT: 3-1/2"

BEARINGS: BALL

DUTY: CONTINOUS

MOUNTING: RIGID & C-FACE

This link is almost the same motor, I'm not sure what the B in my model number is for - http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/DAYTON-180-volts-DC-Motor-and-Controller-7Z226

So what do you think? A good deal or what? I really don't need it and only screwed around and bid on it because of the price.

It is a steal for a motor.

For a wind turbine, full load rated amps is 4.1A, and that's not a lot.
12V cut in is around 145RPM, which is low but still good for an extra-wide PVC bladed machine.

For a 12V wind machine, need to get some VERY wide Slow blades on it.
Think something really wide, like this, except with stiffer blade material,

Mine dose good with a set of aluminum  blades for low wind start up from England at a 51 inch swept area.
YES they are a low amp motor a bit heavy  14 lbs as I remember and about the long.
The blades I have are similar to the windy nation hyper spin 5 but before you put that money in the blades  you might want to look into a higher amp output motor. I did cut a set of blades out of a  pvc sewer pipe that ran out pretty good and stayed up there in several storms on 60 mph+ winds. It might be better if you hook one of hose dc to dc buck boosters to it.

I'd really like to just re-sell it, as I think I have a thread on here somewhere about the city not letting me install a wind turbine. Any offers?

Im not really interested in buying another on unless its real cheap.
But you may want to list it here on the forum classifieds
or re list it on ebay as a wind turbine motor you put the wind turbine on  or wind generator  you may make a buck or more than you paid.
