Laminated cores
« on: February 07, 2011, 06:49:35 PM »
Hi all , I'm using a laminated core,... do you still need to use a backer plate for the magnet rotor, to channel the flux ,or does a laminated core(behind the coils) take care of that?? I was hoping not to use steel behind the mags, the reason being I want to stack my magnets because they are only ferrites', and put the mag rotor in the center with two sets of stator coils, one on each outside.Strips of steel and old magnet wire are easier to aquire than magnets. ...........thanx for any replies...........artv

correct, you don't need steel between the magnets.
you'll need to cut slots out of a non magnetic material to hold the magnets in place.
My wife says I'm not just a different colored rubik's cube, i am a rubik's knot in a cage.

Thanx Joe..........Another ?? when you put slots in the core ,to reduce the gap, ............do the coils still see the flux at the same time???............artv
