winch cable attachment point question
« on: June 14, 2011, 12:22:09 AM »
g'day guys,
i am wondering if there is anything wrong with having the attachment point for the gin pole/winch cable in the anchor rather than on the gin pole itself, with two pulleys for reduction. the reason i ask is that i need to have my winch slightly higher that the gin pole, which would { if attachment was on the pole} mean another pulley and a lot more cable.
any thoughts on this?
cheers,
ben.

Ben what you have drawn is basically what I had, it is not a double reduction but will work just fine.

ok, that's good. there will still be some measure of stress reduction on the components by having these two pulleys though, won't there?
what's the go with the d shackle attachment in the third image allan, is that one that connects from the gin pole to a turnbuckle then your anchor?
cheers,
ben.

http://www.technologystudent.com/gears1/pulley8.htm a good example.

In my third pic the 'd' shackle and turnbuckle is an anchor rope attached after raising to remove the winch from the equation.
