APC UPS's now with smaller batteries
« on: August 12, 2011, 09:55:59 PM »
We still have a few people at work who cannot plug into the building UPS protected outlets. I left IT with two 7-amp-hour used batteries from my eBike and later found out they were not being used as replacements when batteries died. Those came out of an APC 350ES so why wouldn't they go back in?

The answer is APC cheapened their 350ES by putting a 3-amp-hour battery in them now and adding flash ridges inside the battery compartment so only the new and unimproved batteries would fit.

I consider this outright fraud because the model number, external appearance and price have not changed.

That battery is 3AH at the 20 hour rate, too, which is a useless number. 0.15 amps won't run a 350VA inverter. This ups pulls 200 times that rating at full load.

I hope the Divine notices what APC did and does something about it.

It is possible to cut the flash away and put the proper size 7AH battery back in. I'm doing two that way to return to work.
