Equalization for SLA batteries?
« on: August 18, 2011, 07:32:18 AM »
Does the equalization process also applies to SLA batteries? And if the answer is yes how often should it be applied?
The reason why I am asking is due to the fact that I have a large battery bank consisting of (4) 12V 150amp SLA battery in parrallel totalling 600AMP.
So i was wondering if I should perform equalization after several deep discharges and for how long so that each battery cells in the bank would be at the same level.

Check to see what the manufacturer recommends with your sealed batteries.  Typically the answer would be no - you don't equalize them.  Only vented batteries can be equalized.

The battery should say right on the side how high to charge it unless it's cheap junk. I have an sla from China "Enduring Battery" in front of me. ZHONGSHAN HENGLI ELEC. APPL. FTY
CB 10-12 (12V10AH/20HR)
Constant voltage charge
^Cycle Use: 14.5-14.9v 77F (25C)
Initial Charging Current : Less than 3A
^Standby Use: 13.6 13.8V 77F (25C)
Initial Charging Current : Less than 1.5A

Way more info than I expected. Came out of my eBike bought at Wally World.
