Hey y'all
« on: October 14, 2011, 05:07:54 PM »
Haven't posted for a loong time now so thought I'd do a wee update ..
Staying at faslane peace camp now, google if you've not heard of it .. been here the past long time and been a really nice place to stay.
Just got the internet turned on last month here but we've only got two solar panels (130w total) to power stuff .. on a sunny day they're all right but considering the following; It's the west coast of scotland and I can't remember the last full day of sun we had, they're west facing and we're surrounded by trees it's not often we have enough power to use the laptop  :D
Got a friend to charge up the battery on their mains for now though..
Just putting together a wee hydro turbine to put on a wee stream at the back of site.. it goes under a culvert so putting the genny inside it, got about a 4ft drop with I can only guess about 40gal/min(put a 2 gal bucket at the end of the pipe and it filled up pretty instantly), will get some pics up soon of the progress, just bodging a simple turbine together with some plywood and pvc pipe with a wooden shaft (!) but it should work pretty well.
Anyway, Hi to y'all I've not spoken to in like a couple years. Any big news around here I should know?

Great to see you back!

20W is 20W.  20W 24/7 is something near the solar panel output per day.

'Tis the first hydro generator I've made and seems to be working pretty good (the turbine bit at least!) .. Got a couple generators to try hooking it up to now, will try and get some pics if I can borrow a mates camera.

A couple pics, first one is of the wheel and the second of the generator I'm going to attach to it.. Put the turbine in the stream and it spins surprisingly fast, about 200rpm probably, and only just able to stop it by hand so should be a good one! Just messing about with pulleys and belts now..
