Back to the future - Steel laminant stuff photos
« on: October 21, 2011, 11:10:59 PM »
I pulled up some old photos when I was experimenting right along with the Dans and Ed using silicon steel laminants. (thanks to you guys I got into this addiction) All wound in a spiral and I even did some slotted stuff too. Single phase and 3 phase overlapped coils later on.

Thought it was appropriate with all the new talk about the older stuff being brought back to life. I did not experiment with ferrite magnets. It worked well, it was heavy and there was much less braking effect. Talk of cogging pretty much went away when the dual rotor made the scene for home brew. Funny how things come full circle. Dave B

If you still have the strip steel, I can feel a Torus coming on.

I  think the strip is poorly utilised in that kind of design... although it was much better than no return path at all.

Nice work too.

If enough oldies get pulled out of the cupboard and displayed, then a few more ideas may surface as to mounting etc.
