WindGenKits VAWT
« on: April 02, 2012, 12:15:38 AM »
Since my climbing and tower work days are done anyone have any input on this VAWT http://www.windgenkits.com/vcom/product_info.php?cPath=34&products_id=87 ? I have wide open expanses in 3 directions that seem to get the bulk of the prevailing wind so something just high enough to be reachable from a tall step ladder is more doable for me.

It don't look to bad for a vawt, you say your climbing days are over, most folks here don't climb towers, they tilt em down.
I aint skeerd of nuthin.......Holy Crap! What was that!!!!!

that guy used to post on the vertical forum a few years ago
http://www.vawts.net/index.spark?aBID=125317&p=1

he was building a lenz 2 and was looking for help.
windstuff ed was guideing him through construction.
afterwards, we found out he had gone into business.
building lenz 2 copies and kits but had forgotten to mention it to ed.
and didn't mention that it was ed's design in his advertisements.
i let ed know and he and ed came to an understanding.

recently he started using a Chinese  extruded aluminum airfoil.

i can't say anything against his product as far as quality, price, or the power it produces
i don't have that information .

Wind turbines need to be on tall towers to make good power. Just because it is a wawt does not change that.
I don't see any kind of furling on that thing. What will happen When you get  a 60mph wind.

I think that VAWT    Output Is very low as compared to a HWT of the same size. And you have a way to proctect them in high winds.

Even the rigging to tilt a tower down is out now, back and shoulders are bad. Was hoping someone may have tried one and had real world data. The corner of my backyard where I was thinking of putting it would have very little turbulence, no trees in several direction for a mile. Those directions happen to favor the prevailing winds too.

i live in town and can't put up any thing big so my solution was to build multiple vawts along my fence line .
