They can  call it shaft-less if they want, but actually the blades are the shaft. Just because a machine does not have a center shaft does not mean it is shaft-less.

I suppose it's magnetically coupled to the dynamo, thus the shaft need not be a means of water getting into the generator itself.   I think the idea has merit, but wouldn't it necessitate a composite housing, at least in the coupled zone, to prevent eddy currents from dragging down/robbing power from the turbine?

I rather like this idea
