Couple of Motors that I'm considering using for a Turbine...
« on: November 01, 2012, 02:57:23 PM »
hey gang.

Just want see what your thought were on some specs of a few used Servo motor and a Treadmill motors.

1. Baldor Inc (treadmill Motor) 2.7hp, 2350 Rpms, 130 Vdc Brushed @ 25.5 amps $175

2.  SEM Brushless DC (Servo motor) 5.5hp+, 3000 Rpms, 180 Vdc @ 24amps $247 inc/ Shipping

3.  SportsArt (treadmill Motor) 5hp, 3600 Rpms, 230 Vac @ 16-18amps $150 shipped

These are of course much better than what I have and Definitely what I started with.

I'm wondering if I would be better of with a higher amp DC motor or a medium Amp 3 ph AC motor?

Will I get more amps out of a rectified 3phase AC? Brushless would be more logical.

Maybe I should hold our for a BRushless 3 Phase AC Motor with medium Comparable Cutin Rpms with a Decent Amp Rating?

I know you are watching ebay but did you look at the classified section of this site?  seemed to have a link to a motor simular to the one you bought that the sell got screwy on you.

You can pretty much just drop the zero on the rpm to volt ratio you can see the Baldor would be good at 2 to one gear ratio . Scrounge
timing gear set and your good for a couple hundred .

Treadmill motor bearings generally aren't up to direct mounting of blades.
