PICAXE to control hydronic/radiator heating...
DamonHD:
This project is all about energy efficiency and an easy retrofit to the very common boiler+radiators (aka hydronic or 'wet' central heating) scheme in use in the UK.
I mentioned this project in the Diaries section a little while ago, and we have now got to the stage where our PCBs are on the way back from China, we'll be populating a few of the (SMD) boards, and working on the next round where we hope to do some of the mechanics as well.
That next round may well involve an Arduino/ATmega implementation as well as PICAXE, since I want to make this project as accessible as possible.

We had a little item in Automated Home yesterday as well:

Here's an outline timetable to get us updated tech ready for *next* winter (not that this one has gone away yet!) including an Arduino stack:

Great project!
Have you thought about using "energy harvesting" in the system to eliminate the need for replacing batteries?

DamonHD:
Hi,
There has been some discussion of that if you follow this thread:

The first PCB was populated and tested last night!
