Modularity of solar panels
« on: October 08, 2013, 02:17:27 PM »
I've been on a spree of buying solar panels lately.  More than I actually need currently.  Been spurned on by the cheap prices but mostly because I now want them to match.  Previous purchases are a hodge podge of different physical sizes. In the US modularity of construction is based on 16, 24 48 96 inch like the venerable 4X8 sheet of plywood.  Suppose elsewhere there is the same in metric.  Seems like every manufacturer varies panel size.  Thought the industry by now would have a standard so a replacement panel ten years later would fit right in.    Then of course most panels are placed in strings so the currents should also match.  My new 100W are about the same size as my slightly older 80W.  Looks like we will eventually have to have micro inverters on every panel to solve this problem.

You could the two banks of panels one with the 80 W panel one with the 100 W panels with a  controller on each bank.
