Pendulum Turbine
« on: November 12, 2009, 10:42:25 AM »
This works by swinging one way then back

My little GE ECM turbine survived the current North Easter, but the blades on this one didn't

What caused this? What would you do differently? Any before pictures of the hub?

Yep, gonna have a new hub cnc'd.... specs I'll determine after studying it. Deal is that was a commercial cast hub that should not have given way after 2 years.

You could try putting it up above the tree tops in clean air.  Turbulence will accelerate failure of the hub.  Cheap chinese stuff usually sheds blades sooner or later, but sooner in a rough site.

That would be best but unfortunately I can't raise it any higher, 30 ft is the max I can get away without runing afoul of the authorities.

I'm in the same boat.  I just shake my head everytime I see all the trees around.  Luckily, I'm still producing more than I'm using in that application.

I did construct a new hub using 1" thick x 8" diameter aluminum, balanced for the blades. The blades were my construction out of layed up vacuum  fiber glass, and this unit is still running

Welcome back Rover!
