My son is learning about magnetism, electricity, a little bit about RE.  We built this small alternator using a skill-saw blade (with teeth removed), 4 permanent magnets, four solenoid coils and an LED lamp








He seemed pretty happy.  This led of course to the ever popular potato, and carrot battery.

Brilliant I put two little magnets on a kiddies windmill didn't generate electricity but with a reed switch in Plasticine on the stick was able to demonstrate how a magnet can do work without touching anything. I tried it with one magnet but even close to the hub it was going to shake things apart...

The kids faces are worth more than any payment you get from a customer...
