recommendations for phones with infrared camera capability?
« on: March 04, 2018, 01:30:42 PM »
Hi - does anyone here use an attachment for a phone, or a phone with built-in infrared picture-taking capability, to take pictures of homes/buildings, to monitor for energy escape?  Any pointers on what to buy?

FLIR isn't cheap. They have them for Android and iOs.

https://www.amazon.com/FLIR-ONE-Thermal-Imager-iOS/dp/B00VILVV62

Least expensive on eBay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-HT-175-Imaging-32X32-Infrared-Thermal-Camera-Temperature-20-300-Degree-Tool/142687737787

A laser spot thermometer of decent quality can be had for less than $50. The display is just a number not a fancy picture.

OK, thanks.  I was thinking of FLIR, or something like this:

I like the idea of saving money, but am kind of graphically oriented, so it would be nice to have an image.

Look for Seek Thermal Imaging Camera for iOS LW-AAA

$180 to $250 attachment for iPhone.  Some versions support Android.

Seek Thermal is FLIR's only real competitor in that class of device. Seek is usually less expensive, though. If you are a insulation contractor, then spending a couple hundred dollars on a clip-on thermal camera is probably a good investment.

Night vision was developed for the military. If you want try out some FLIR or SEEK units visit a well stocked gun shop. They may not be legal to hunt with https://www.hightechredneckincorporated.com/articles.asp?ID=261 so make it clear you want to do insulation contractor work with it.
