Modification of winding of PM-generator FP-640
« on: September 09, 2018, 10:32:23 AM »
On my website www.kdwindturbines.nl at the bottom of the menu KD-reports, you find a new note called "Modification of the winding of the PM-generator type FP-640". This is a 36-pole PM-generator with a 3-phase winding with 27 coils which is supplied by the organisation WindGenKids. The generator is derived from the direct drive motor of a washing machine. In the note, a method is described about how the original winding can be modified such that it might be possible to use the generator for a small horizontal axis wind turbine for 12 V or 24 V battery charging. The original winding has nine coils for each phase which are all connected in series. The three phases are connected in star. If the original winding is rectified, the voltage is much too high for battery charging. The modified winding has three bundles of three coils and the bundles are connected in parallel. This gives a reduction of the voltage of a factor 3 if the winding is rectified in star and a reduction of a factor 5.2 if the winding is rectified in delta.
