Culver Props Video
« on: November 12, 2018, 02:17:14 AM »
Found this on youtube:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHXlhJlPqKg

Fun making wooden laminated props for ultralight & experimental aircraft.  Lots of similarities with making WT props!

The video quality is regrettably not very good (mostly hand-held, focus drifts out) but the process is thoroughly documented.
The company owner explains everything in detail.

No one believes the theory except the one who developed it. Everyone believes the experiment except the one who ran it.

Nice video. Wooden shoes are made in the same way. You have an original which is copied. The disadvantage is that the final result can never be more accurate than the original. As the geometry is made rather course, some inaccuracy will be created when the sawing marks are removed with sand paper. A total different way of making tapered wooden wind turbine blades is used by the Dutch company E. A. Z. Wind. They have calculated the blade geometry and then programmed a special milling machine which cuts this geometry very accurately. They supply a direct drive 3-bladed wind turbine with a rotor diameter of 12 m mainly for use by farmers.
