opinions on charge regulation, 13 HP B&S
Bruce S:
Not trying to hijack your thread, but is it strange there's a FBI Buzzer and Switch?
Or is it just me :o.
Also;
You could find a regulator for car, IF I'm looking at the schematic correctly , it'll connect and regulate the wild AC down to the correct voltages. Since this is putting out 24VAC you may have to opt for a 24V unit , but a grease-n-go should have one. Our Ambulances use the 24V versions.

Bruce; the buzzer buzz when the collector bag are full - or used to; the sensor switch failed years ago, so i disconnected it... ;) (Or did you refer to a certain investigative bureau? :D )
I would think that a car alternator puts out more than 28 V wild AC? Anyway, there isn't any field to regulate here?
Bruce S:
Yes, I was referring to the bureau ::).
The output is well regulated to hold 13.8 (IFR) . The regulator should not care about a field. It's more like a full-wave regulator that will take the wild AC and regulate it to smooth DC at 13.8Vdc.
Hope that helps.

A simpler solution might be to add loads - say a couple of 12v 12w lamps on switches?
If the generator only outputs 3A then turning on a 12w lamp (1a load ) after a few minutes then another after another 10 mins should reduce the charge current to reasonable levels. I was going to suggest turning on the headlights after 5 mins but as they're on a separate output they might not affect the battery charge output.
