.  In our case it is a #6-4 CU SO cord with a steel-mesh strain-relief

Just at the point of choosing, why use 6/4 if a 4/3 would also have fit the kellem grip?
The 4th wire isn't used if rectifying directly.
Does your MPPT require the 4th leg?
I assuming your stator is in Star.

You could.  That is correct, we are wire in Star/Wye, so the fourth wire is just a ground.

I originally thought I might bring down the center tap.  With this, as Adriaan points out, we could have stronger braking - shorting all four.  I don't see the need for it, and braking with three leads is much simpler, and less expensive, because you only need a double-pole switch (30A in our case).

How'd the raising go?

First raising went well.
A few "kinetic" moments due to guy cables too slack...
All steady now.
See the other thread.

Just picked up 100 feet of 8/4 SOOW.
Jeez that is heavy.  Not sure the Kellem can hold that.

I don't think ours has ever moved (slid).  Your Kellam has a compression type male-adapter, correct?  I suppose you could also put a compression fitting above whatever it is passing thru.
