I am amazed how simple Jim's design is.  It is basically using flag power in a VAWT.

Yes a lot of things will spin if you point a fan at one side and not the other.
Does it run outdoors?
With a generator or other sort of load?

He shows a clip with the fan pointed centerline early on and then the completed array running in the wind.  He certainly could have cut substantial weight from his circular rotor ends.  But even with the high weight it worked pretty well in light wind.

I liked the fact he wasn't trying to prove Betz's limit wrong.

It'll be interesting to see it running with a gen attached too, should be good for a bit of battery charging.
