Have a friend that says you generate DC off a coil, we know this is AC.

Can anyone point out a link to a basic page.

don't have a page at hand but a basic explanation should do the trick....

In order to get AC from a coil it needs to pulsed at a certain hertz 50 over the pond and 60 over there, then a bridge rectifier using 4 diodes for a full bridge or 2 for a half bridge with a cap to smooth out the rough DC output will produce DC.

I found this schematic should help. You can clearly see how the coil makes AC that has to be rectified with a bridge.

Tell him to look at any vehicle diagram, because that's how all stators work ;D
