3rd party site sources. A less ideal idea

(1/2) > >>

brandnewb:
On many other fora it is often frowned upon when presenting information behind a link only. And for good reason.

The consensus is that there may be a link as long as the information in it that was used to make the point was copied over.

Because otherwise what if the link goes down? Then we are left with empty references.

Why not we copy over the contents of those references and make sure that the content stays relevant in case something happens with the source site?

Copying over a substantial amount of material should be done with the permission of the copyright holder.

agreed, So as an example and there might be many others. Shall we ask Adriaan if he would agree to it?

If not then I would advice against linking to external sources that are essential to the point being made for obvious reasons.

Kind regards

TechAdmin:
Ideally one could link and quote some bits just to make sure, but yes that is a very valid point and it's even more important with attachments and images. Tinypic says hi, in that regard.

Appropriate way to use external text from another source is:

"Text you want to share" in the quotation marks followed by the link to that page. Widely accepted netiquette for sharing online info. Sharing an entire book is  a wee bit frowned on! But 2-3 paragraphs is fine.
