Title: SOURCE FOR LED OFF GRID SIGN LIGHTS
Post by: adobejoe on December 13, 2018, 10:57:53 AM
I am looking for a supplier for sign lighting for exterior applications. Closest I have found is for trucks and RVs (mobile apps), but I need a flood not a spot and linear, say 4-8 ft lengths. Found one at the do it yourself center rating 9-32 VDC, 144 watts, 21,600 lu. and 22" length. Any ideas out there?

Andy

Once I get my shop built I will have to have High bay lighting I found these which will work great for me but you said you need outdoor so you might look at the home page of the site and find something like you are looking for

I am thinking that 6 of these will do a sufficient job of lighting my 60 by 70 by 18 ft high shop

adobejoe Making an LED into a flood light is a little more difficult than linear or spot because LEDs are spots by nature and design. I just bought a $45 4' LED light from Home Depot than was designed to look like a 4' flourescent shop light. The diffuser is what makes it work. It's actually 2 strips of led spots. But the color is 4000K and at 55 watts it uses less than the 40 watt x 2 linear flourescent it replaced (plus it's brighter). The down side seems to be heat dissipation. After installing it I noticed fine print that warns against use in environments above 35C. Outdoors summers  in south Florida that temp is common even in the shade, so I don't know how long this fixture will last.

There are some 12v spots here, but not cheap. A 2000 lumen/12v/30w complete fixture is $100.

You might do better buying a cheap outdoor Edison base fixture and put leds that were made to replace tungsten filament bulbs. There are lots of 12v Edison base led bulbs.

You may want to look at Quantum Boards. They are a type of led flood light (assembled led strips) used as "grow lights"  in green houses.  With quantum boards one can custom build the light you want!

Cheers
