Title: More Off Topic Than Even the Christmas Tree Poll

Please help settle a difference of opinion. Does this shelf look 'rustic' or does it look like junk? I think it looks like junk, but that might be because I remember the where the wood came from.

Yeah, rustic is a word for it.
It can be improved if you want to sand down all of its surfaces, put on a coat of stain, and then a coat of Varathane Diamond finish. 
It would be quite water resistant then (it seems to be in a bathroom).

It has been sanded but a coat of varathane would have been nice too.
