Controls / Re: OzInverter 2nd edition book, Chapter 14 Tech Info.
« Last post by Penthode on Today at 11:49:42 AM »
Thanks for this wonderful piece of information. I been reading all your post for years.

Wondering the dimensions of your Heatsink or where to buy .

Now working on a triac based  3 stages Charging system and Transfer system.

Thanks in advance

Hello,
I'm developing a Firmware in order to control a Triac at high votage side of the transformer with a charging tap .
In my case is  a 90vac tap  Relay switched when Mains are present. Transformer high voltage side is (Neutral,90vac and 120vac). In tention is use Body Diode of Mosfets as full wave rectifier.
Control board will follow votage 3 stage profile depending on voltage selected ( of course battery and transformer must match)
Before switch to "charging" state when mains are present , I'm asured that Inverter is powered down ( using SD) .
Questions :
1-There is a 20k resistor across Gate/source on OzInverter ... When shut down this resistor would be held the mosfet at the ground potential ?
2-The feedback Transformer which connected VFB , May use a 0.5 VA 14vac ?  I want to incorporate a smallest transformer there .

Any comment/suggestion would be highly Apreciated

That's a facebook link and they got temporary signatures to show up, since Meta don't want us to use 1mb of their bandwidth and can't afford servers the image signature is scrambled every so often so people can't hotlink images off there.

@topspeed please put the actual images and don't hotlink off facebook image links, as it will only work for a couple of hours and then break itself, sadly not something I can do anything about :( You can rest assured that if you upload the images on our forum they won't go away instead (unless the server and the backups implode but we don't talk about that ;D ).

Agreed, A VAWT is just soo much less efficient than a HAWT is when we look at it top down not skin deep.

Some of us, including me, need to fall back on the less efficient turbine configurations else risk just all kinds of issues. Like deaths and fights with neighbors.

All I care about is how to quantify the Coil Magnet Limit.

And how to see what it means to have a +6m drag VAWT to drive up the torque rather high.

Probably we will see me blundering again in where I need to admit that also this configuration is doing nothing fruitful.
But since it has not been done before here or in the books I bought. I set out to do it my self and see.

On my end your post had only image place holders so I could not see the update :(

Probably because of my browser rightfully so being configured to be extra paranoid with leaking data.

Ok, everyone knows a VAWT is hard design and cant even get near what a HWAT produces.

This user is making a first attempt at it.
Quote
As for the turbines, I prefer the VAWT to the HAWT because I find the slower rotational speed to be less intrusive if it's within sight of the house.

Quote
I am hoping to get mine flying this summer and see how she performs. At that time I would be happy to tell you my experience and things I would change or do different right away.
These guys are right, if you want a vawt, plan on it being bigger then a hawt. I thought I could squeeze my stator down to 14in and ended up a full 2in above that. It may not sound like much, but that pushes my mag plates out to 17in min 18 might be better, depending on thickness of steel. When you start adding inches to big chunks off spinning steel, you need to think about that, if for no other reason, weight on bearings and balancing. So a vawt can get bigger on you in a hurry.

Friends,

This is just me being miserable.

Let me find the most correct words to say what need to be said. And even now I am sure I will screw this up.

In essence.

I think this is the best place to share knowledge.

In practice:
I get my feathers ruffled at times as there are respected players here that know soo much more than I ever will yet leave me hanging.
Now that introduces my pride mechanism.
I do not care about being wrong at times. that does not influence my pride.

All I'd lie to make knows is that I care about this forum and that I am willing to stick my neck out to make it thrive again.

With no strings attached other than that the one holding the strings is one I feel confident in.

Now I will go into hibernation here. As I do not wish to fuffle feathers just for the fuffle.

We will meet again in the future and I will still love you.

Remember in where I had in mind this meeting in person? In where I will shake your hand and give this nod of respect?

kind regards

All you have to do is collect your thoughts for the day in a wordpad document(or other form, pick an editor) then edit it so it makes sense THEN make one post a day instead of shotgun posts all over the place that are disjointed and impossible to follow. So simple and what I do when working on a large project.

Finally Got a 3" ball valve installed and got some foam pigs to 'pig' the pipe. It went through without and problems, amazing amount of peaty mud came out, so much I was stood in a pool of it at the end. The foam pigs I got really are just sofa foam an inch wider than the pipe bore, so will be making my own when these 2 wear out.  ;)

Reminds me of the satellite television dish my parents had when I was young.  It used pivots to tilt back and forth.  The pivoting apparatus bore its weight on an arc shaped bar.  As you rotated the dish horizontally there were wheels that rested against the bar.  The bar sat on the horizontal pivot before the dish tilt machinism and could be adjusted about to any direction before keybolts held it tight against the main horizontal pivot.  Until wind got in the low 50s the big dish could hold a tight signal.

Not sure of the wind loading ability, a wheel experiences heavy side loading as well, they're conical. a proper slew drive bearing has both thrust and side angular geometry. the downward force isn't the largest concern as it is the off set side forces with wind and drive system.

The most ideal thing would be a proper slewdrive unit!

Don't know the size of your support mast for the panels but if you put a flat plate on your bottom tube one of these would last many years. Already weather sealed... I have used the next size down(2" mast) to support really heavy antenna loads...

https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/dxe-tb400

All ways good to have options, I need to do a total remake of the top half, I was going to use a vehicle hub was my idea

That would work but weather sealing is an issue... and using down force on bearing designed to be use horizontal...premature wear? Bearing I linked is designed to have a large vertical weight parked on it.

Aligning up and clamping things down inside and testing it all for free easy movement

15908-0

15909-1

15910-2

It worked great so now to get it on the mast

15911-3

15912-4

15913-5

15914-6

Now I need to get all the wiring cleaned up and secured, and make some weather protection.

Next main project is making a proper bearing and rotor system and fixing the chain alignment (It is as bad as it looks).

I'd like to get it to the point I can put 1 Kw on it.

ok gang, I have a confession to make.

It is going to take too long and argue...

hahha nah gang :)

Let us liven up the mood.

Truth be told that I am a little ready to rock the foundations when it needs to be.

Yet never let it be said that I am not willing to help { argg screw this. mu auto correct cant help me convey what it is I want to}

Now that said.

-----------------------

I have some interesting news to share.

#2
ok I have one for us. One that does strike home.

Now I can demonstrate that the benefit of an iron core is directly related to the amount of resistance there is in the whole coil.

Weird yes? yes for me also. So it might well be that I could be mistaken.

Yet I do not think I am.

Can one pealse challenge me on this?

How to conduct proper experiments with the tools I have.

Now if you are going to hide behind not knowing the tools I have then I say 2 things.

* hey great you are new to the party. let us get you up to speed.
* ahh see how I just saw through your actual intend?

And then there a 3rd one. Just a misunderstanding that so many of us fall into this category.

#3
and I hate to have to spell it out. It are the people that do not with...

argg. screww this

Come on Joe And Ed. show some Chest.!!

#4
#now this was not in invitation to flame wars.

how could it have been since I am also a respected smart person.

This is however just one smart guy to another. come one lets get it on within the boundary that are set here.

It could lead of course to a misunderstanding in where I thought more than that there was. .
Ok I will go lick my wounds and now I have to deal with the even lower social standing I had to begin with.

luckily 2 stayed true so it all aligned in the end but I do not like missing two fasteners! But thankfully plenty more material to try again with a better template and drill press.

Counter sinking turned out perfect.

Well after much finagling I am going to have to mount the gear motor with flush counter sunk bolts so need to rethink my adapter plate

So 1/4" Aluminium plate it will be with 5/16 SS counter sunk flat bolts

Cardboard is cheap for prototyping with!

got lucky and found the mechanical drawing for the slide out motor. Assisted greatly in helping to make it with a much more precise centre! So ideally the shaft alignment will be very tight.

But the thicker adapter plate may create a head ache depth wise.

Well after a couple blown PWM modules, a burned relay board I figured time to fix the azimuth drive properly

So far the main motor been an old rv slide out unit, 10 RPM at 840 inch pounds, this then went to a 2 to 1 further reduction, so 5 RPM

(5rpm / 60) * 360 = 30 degrees per second, needles to say horribly fast, stresses the frame and the motor.

So I finally got a 40:1 worm drive. So made a simple shaft coupler system and ruffing out an adapter plate.

Had to take the motor apart and clean it up.

15893-0

15894-1

So this will end up with 10rpm / 42 = (0.24rpm / 60) * 360 = 1.44 Degrees per second way way better!

So sun moves 7.5 degrees per 30m (I have it set to adjust every 30m to save wear on the motor) means now unit will run for 5.21 seconds, means much better wear pattern on the brushes and happier motor rather then massive 1 second surges!

Ideally now my psu and drive motor will be much longer lived and no more weird burn outs!

Next stage is to fabricate an adapter plate to mount on the bell housing, this will be 6" by 7" by 1/4" aluminium. will post an update once that is made and some picks of it when mounted back to the array and see if this will let me post a video of it in action.

After not seeing much improvement with the 12 pole vs 6 pole swap, I decided it's finally time to add a second axial flux alternator to the shaft.

Specs on the old is are 9 coils, 12 poles, 212 turns, 22 gauge, 5/8" thick coils and 3 phase.  The new one is going to be 12 coils, 6 poles 200 turn, 24 gauge, 3/8" thick coils, and dual single phase.

The goal is to wire the two 6 coil single phase alternators in parallel after the bridge rectifiers to be able to match up with the 22 gauge of the first alternator.  Then put both alternators in series.  I'm hoping to drop the cut in RPM from 90-100 RPM down to ~40-60 RPM and also increase the peak current to 8-10 amps.

I have 3 coils wound on the CNC machine already.

Now hold on to your buttocks everyone because this is going to be an earth shaker.

82 watts!! power potential in a mere 5 x 0.4 mm lits wired coil at a 35-70-35 configuration.

It was Mary that did nudge me to try out the wire in hand stuff of which I never found anything. But it did lead me to the Litz concept.

But shall I be honest? Why is Litz a thing? I mean running wires in parallel has been before us since when these scientific ideas were formed yes?

82 watt!!  I hope I am not mistaken.

I wish I had your problem.  I have extreme shade at both my homes.  I have gas heat and thought about a mini split, but don't live there in summer.  My monthly service fees for gas are higher than the actual gas use.  There would be no savings unless I fully cut the pipe.  I do heat water with resistive PV because it is so cheap and I only use excess power.  Solar is a great playground if you know electronics.  I really can't help anyone because all my solutions are so unconventional that almost nobody can replicate them.

a while back I suggested starting a daily post in word pad or other editor.

That way as you go thru the day you can add to and edit it and post on coherent response...

As is what we see is disjointed rambling that does NOT tell a story

Activity is fantastic and we appreciate your enthusiasm, but not at the cost of drowning everyone else's posts :)
Can I install a mod to prevent people from posting twice in a row? Yes, but is it really necessary to block users from doing something that can be occasionally useful just to prevent these kind of things? In my opinion it isn't, it hasn't been an issue for many years.

I am not sure how to respond.

I though that activity was a good thing

And if there was too much of activity then it would be a simple tweak to the software,

I will give some pseudo code

If  source of message == source of message  && ( timedetalawithlastmessage)

I mean if I am able to drown out the stuff here while I have so many important things to add then let us us really figure out how to solve it.

I have always known that this simple machine software 3was a bit too simple. I am ready to help

@brandnewb this one comes from me, next time you post SEVEN times in a row (as in multiple times) I will personally mute you, you've been asked multiple times over and over again to edit your posts. There is absolutely no reason to do that, I will say JW had far too little patience about it but I can't say he's wrong about it if you check the attached screenshot. It kills visibility for other active topics and it's rude. Last warning.
