Green power "man"

Here Is a few pictures of a man power generator



The generator is of the belt driven design



There are three locations on the switch



1. 5 watt DC fan 2. fan plus 150 watt light bulb 3. Dead short(I will tell the students this is moms drier.

i did something like that, i tore it apart though, i think im gunna put a gas engine on the motor i have to get a good charging rpm. then all i would have to do is find a way to make biodisel to run the engine. good luck though my man.

This unit runes on "bio-fuels" to as long as you eat your breakfast in the morning.

I get out about 100W before I top out. 50W is a very sustainable output.


I once calculated how much a bag of potato crisps would yield in electricity (assuming 100% metabolic & mech. conversion efficiencies). IIRC, it was about 1kWhr. Meaning 20 hrs of cycling at 50W. Yikes... Even with correct efficiencies, this may well be 6-7 hours, I guess.

Hey, Peter-


I read recently that the typical human body is about 28% efficient at converting "fuel"  energy into mechanical work. . .


so that's still about 4 hours of peddling, assuming the combined efficiency of the generator apparatus at 80%. . . Just say no to the junkfood. <G>

I am going to bring this gen. to students on April 18 and see how much power they can generate. Seeing that a child's hart rate is almost twice that of an adult I should be able to charge a few batteries...what do you think...channel some of that wasted energy? (Youth is wasted on the young) Ha Ha...

I have just finished my science demo to students from grades 1-9. What a fun time. They tried out my "man powered generator" and learned how the stirling engine cycle works. I showed them my beta Stirling engine novel design. I really enjoy teaching children they are so open to learn, I am not sure how much they retained but I could tell they enjoyed it. Opening green minds to the power of energy! Fun stuff. Scott

Actually, I've always believed that the felony criminals could do a service if they were sentenced to spend at least 4 hours a day on these machines generating electricity for what county they reside in......
