82 MPG ride :  )

Three  weeks ago I pick up a Tomos 150cc scooter

Its typical of the china built scoots available on the web.

I did buy it from a dealer who works on what they sale .

My camera crapped out  but here is what she looks like mine is in silver .

I was told that its top end was 60 to 65.  An I thought right  but boy was I surprised. I am still breaking the engine in an popped  it up to 60 an still had throttle left no doubt it will do 65 : )

And I have been getting  about 82 MPG.

Tax title an 30 day tag out the door with  a  helmet set me back $2000 US

I have my  Motorcycle Learner's Permit and be for to long will test for full endorsement. Then I can rid after dark an ride it to work.

Right now I have been using it on my days off  for quick trips to town.  An having a blast bopping a round the county side  

The engine compression an carb would be a good candidate for running ethanol .

You won't need a lot of feed stock to keep a 1.3 gallon tank filled.

Nice ...but a matter of preference I liked my

Whizzer motor.....at $99.97 + my old bike and

my Dad paid for half of that 100+ mpg cost me

nickles and dimes to run all week....but that

was Yesteryear huh?

    Salsbury scooters were nice too.

 Nice looking ride. They are fun to ride

Can't keep the heavy hand off the throttle myself; but still getting 70s.

ALSO: DO NOT put E85 in there, will void warranty!!

I being a producer of course asked and was told no way. if you look close you'll see that most of the engine parts are made of Al. It will pit under the harshness of E85 and the engine will kaput.

And at 70s mpg I don't mind using 90+ octane

Way to go Old F.

If you haven't done a lot of motorcycle riding, either on or off road, and even if you have ridden some, I would suggest taking a Motorcycle Safety course.  It can even teach old dogs new tricks.        http://www.msf-usa.org/

Just remember

90% of motorcycle accidents the car driver will say "I didn't see him". So, drive like everyone else is a bleedin' idiot and you'll be OK, and at least half right.

I for got about Al and alcohol  not mixing. I was thinking about its octane rating.

It really  tick me off when I toped off the tank an it cost me a hole $2 : )

I had a dirt bike as a kid an have log over 3000 miles on a 21 speed road race bicycle

I have ridden back county roads an down town rush hour traffic

I know all to well what's out there for two wheelers  Had to give it up due to lower back problems a few years a go.

 At least with this scoot I can easily keep up with in town traffic : )

  I'll agree to that!! First day out the wife is coming home on it. New licenses new full face helmet and all; and some blue hair ole-lady turns right it front and the bike gets laid on the ground!!

At the moment that $250.00 helmet paid for it's self right laong with the safety classes.

As the saying goes "A noisy bike is a safe bike"

 Get to know your bike, like where the CDI is , fuel filter and such.

There's a StL riders club that meets at the local micro-brewry and they've seen a lot of the newer bikes pushed over here that aren't going through the same close inspections as they used to before fuel went up around $3/gal.

Tomos units are some of the better units out there too.

That bike after the initial 300 mile honeymoon will easily get right up to 55, if you do decide to ride the higher speeds, may I suggest a windshield? coupla big bugs and weekender rocks & your chest will thank you for it.

Bummer about the back news, but with this you'll be able to smell and feel the area again, instead of having them just pass by in a blurrrrr.

I'm either getting hooked on riding again or getting old one of the two,) but I'd rather ride this even in the cold and light rain.

Yes sirs they work!!

Actually pulled the ones from my old MB 300D and wired them up :0 BUT just alittle to late for the right side of the bike however, parts are easy to order and looks like new, sorta..

NOW people duck when they're blown. Did have to put in a new battery though.

Most batts these come with are little 9Ahr Lead-Acids.

I have FULL motorcycle coverage on this little gem.

My plan is to add a voltage regulator an light this puppy up like a whoopee parlor out side a Navy base on a Saturday night.

 For the times I will ride it to work be for sun up.

Well, Bruce;

I am so far in arrears on projects the 2 wheeler is evolving into a converted riding mower for farm chores. Mower will be an easy swap just pull the deck and the good motor put the 24 V DC motor from the old cordless push mower in it with its controls run the drive train off a pulley on that.

Not very practical for me to ride an Ebike the 14 road miles [all hills] to town one way but I can replace a fair bit of gasoline use and wear on the ATV by riding the mower out to do chores. If we were townies or closer in it would be different.

Yeah, I know, walking would be best but no way I can manage that these days.

I looked for a 3 wheel pedal bike to convert but nothing local was available reasonably priced.

Also looked at street legal dirt bikes but even blown motor ones big enough to haul my bulk around were high priced. I am still licensed to operate pretty much anything that rolls including motorcycles but my wife doesn't want me riding motorcycles any more because I have a history of stupid decisions on them.

Speaking of projects. Any headway on that Doc Wattson stuff?

Tom I have been looking for an old 250 basket case for a similar project.

But with popularity of these cheap scooters in a year or two no doubt there will be some

with blown engines to be had for little or nothing.

 Could be fun to see what could be done with one.

bummer about the e-bike, if I come upon one like the blue one in my diaries I'll give you a shout!!

The Doc Wattson, the guy that I handed it to still has this look on his face when I ask about it, I've got a few I'd like to do the same thing to.

He tels me thhis one was "really" toast, so he's rebuilding it from scratch, which I'm curious about since it has several "extra" spots on it for add-ons.

BUT at this time no new news..

 I know those mistakes, but think of the savings of not spending money on tats, just connect the scars , I do when asked why I don't have tats.

I get a better chance to spend more than a few hours with Pepa, maybe we can weld something up for ya, he does more in one day than I can get done in a week. Plus he's just just so darn smart!!

It'd be an easy one day drive up.

Nice. I would love to ride in the street in south Florida, but I want to live long enough to retire. Plus it rains every day during the summer.

Being able to do 65 mph is a must. You can accelerate your way out of trouble and keep up with the cagers on city streets.

Tomos has been around for a long time. I had a Motobecane in college. They lost money in the US and promptly bailed out, leaving me to go to scrap yards for parts.

Can you carry groceries? I made saddlebags for my Motobecane for the weekly trip to Albertsons.

  Not sure about Old F's but yeah there's room . Under the seat there room for say a 30 pack or 2 gals of milk plus bread-n-such. We optioned for the "trunk" and it's big enough for 1 helmet or even more stuff .

By not having the trunk on it a pretty good sized crate can be either bolted or bungie corded on for even more carrying ability.

Saddle bags, have a set from the Yamaha 250 but haven't thought far enough ahead about putting them on, we ride two to a bike at most. Even then there's enough power to zoom out of a tight spot, if it was a manual tranny it'd be able to pull the front tire easy.

 For anywhere Orlando or south I'd be inclined to have the 250cc instead, may still opt for it fi the wife stops letting me ride the red 150cc again.

Well Bruce I am useing a back pack right now

An have been looking at trunks I dont have a lot of room under the seat cant get my 3/4 helment in it. The backe pack is working well an can be

stuffed under the seat when its not needed.
