Laughed my way threw the whole thing!
« on: March 10, 2009, 06:46:45 AM »
Laugh threw the whole thing, I just got my Rotor assembled, it was like popcorn with magnets, almost like a scene from Harry potter, metal object flying across the desk, great FUN.  Two 10.25 X .46" disks, 16 each 2 X Wedges X .25 N45's.  Was only bitten twice!  They are set up going to go and set them up on the Lathe, Time to work on the coils, setup the Meter and the scope and see what it will put out.

Looking for any feed back, I have 22 lbs or 10 Kilos, for those of you have fully embraced the metric system and yes I have 12 toes!

Have currently left 1" for Stator, should I drop this for testing to .75". I understand it depends on the stator thickness, just for testing, have no idea how thick it will be when done, that is why I'm playing.

Any Idea for coil shapes,  raps, etc...

Oh, 24 system, sorry forgot to list it sooner.

Just cashed in my Hotel points, will have a wood shop shortly, any body ever used the DeWalt DW735 Planer looking for real feed back, have seen lot of bad press, but it looks so sweet?

I'm also looking for Blade ideas, shape, size, etc..  Even wild ideas?

1/4" thick magnets are thin for an air gap machine. I haven't drawn them out but I can't help feeling that 16 of them on a 10" disc doesn't leave much space between them.

I think with a 1" gap you will have a low flux density with lots of leakage flux.

The ideal air gap is under 1/2" but thin stators are tricky and you waste at least 1/16" on either side for mechanical clearance. I think you would do better trying a half in thick stator in a 5/8" air gap. At most don't push the gap beyond 3/4".

10 kilos of what?

Not going to take very big blades, possibly 2 metres if you run it on the fast side with a prop of tsr near 7.
