Hugh Piggott - Maybe video your U.S workshop?
« on: April 05, 2007, 09:35:50 PM »
Just a thought that I ran past the irc folks with some approval.

Regarding your Washington workshop course at Guemes Island Community Center, Guemes Island, WA on on May 7th

The nature of this board is homebrew/DIY - $800 maybe out of the reach of some folks?

I wonder, could you get one of your students/helpers to video the 'best bits' of your workshop and maybe offer it as a DVD to be purchased on the otherpower website?

$25 maybe - still a profit for your hard work, but more accessible to all.

Meant in all good faith :)

I would have to agree with this idea.

$800 is WAY out of reach for my budget, especially when you take into account travel from northern Minnesota.

I would definitely go for a DVD, even if the cost was higher.  But there's not much chance I'd ever be able to make a workshop course unless I won the lottery, in which case I'd be paying someone else to make the stuff for me!!  :)

I can't speak for Hugh obviously...

But at a workshop it's quite a bit of frantic work with lots of stuff getting done all at the same time it seems like.  I could imagine being there with a video tape machine and getting a few nice tid-bits to include in a good instructional video - but you'd never shoot a whole video there.

We've slowly been working on a video here and it's surprisingly time consuming and it moves along surprisingly slowly.  I think that to make a good video and fit most of the important stuff into a 2 or 3 hour show is very tricky.

So far I find that we need to 're-shoot' most of the steps several times so that it looks good - sounds good - and gets the point across.

A good video is tricky - very time consuming stuff.  Lots of editing etc.

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.

Lots of editing etc.?

The parts that were edited out would be worth the price of admission.Maybe start a tv show. The screwups are the fun part.

I remember that Junkyard wars episode with hawt vs vawt and the vawt won.

We could turn this place into a tv channel for all to veiw, much better than the crap on tv now.

 Here i go again.

hi dan as someone who has worked on several science programs for independant tv production companies i know how long it takes. if you get 3 minutes of usable footage per day with a  full crew of professionals you are doing well. and that is a 14 hour day on average. just to give you an idea.

Hi

Just found this thread rather late as usual.  I have got hours of video footage that I shot on courses, and I have edited some of it into brief stories but it is not the same as being there!  I should really put it on a DVD and sell it but of course it is only some footage of what happened on some courses and not a proper instructional video.  So I would never be very happy with selling it even though it could be quite useful.
