Argue with Wally-world!!!!
« on: August 12, 2007, 05:30:51 AM »
You SHOULD argue with Wal-mart if they try to charge you for a replacement battery durring the FREE 2 year replacement time period! Or any free period!

I had one totally shot, 9V sitting, would not take much charge, dropped back to 7-9V sitting 2 days. They tried to charge me $15 to replace it because they do not carry the exact same stock number now. I politely argued the point it's not my fault they don't have that exact battery and I should get a free replacement of something since it was still in the 2 year FREE period! I paid for a 2 year free replacement battery and they needed to live up to it!

All the batteries but one of the 2 year type is the same price here, took awhile but I got a battery with 90amps more cranking power FREE! I think that one I returned had a shorted cell! Shipped Sept 05, died a few months ago, I finally returned it yesterday.

I could not revive that one, but since it was still in a free replacement period I figured why bother anyway, just get a new one! I did not try very hard with that one.

Basically, because WAL-MART does not have in stock a ??-??? 2 year free replacement battery they wanted to charge me $15 to get a 2year free replacement battery they do have of even 90 less cranking amps! ALL the 2year batteries cost $53 here (except one oddball for $56).

Finally a manager said ya, ok, and saw my point that the 2 year sticker was not worth the stickey paper it was printed on if they would not live up to the replacement. He said I could have the new battery free but no waurantee or receipt since I was not paying the $15.

I nicely told him it didn't matter since the first 2 year one died in less than 2 years anyway right! Why should I pay $15 for free a replacement that might not last more than 20 months like the first one! Battery costs $53 and supposed to be replaced free within 2 years, why SHOULD I pay the $15 it still has a month left now and died 3 months ago at least??

Well I was willing to take a battery of 90 less cranking amps for the free exchange, but even that was going to cost the same $15. So when the manager said ok to the free exchange I had already brought up two batteries to the counter, one 90 amps more and one 90 amps less than my dead one I was returning (They did not have the same amps in top post) and both they were going to charge the same $15 for! So I asked him, since both batteries sell for $53 does it matter which one I take for a free exchange, he said no take what works for you. :)

Of course being I have about 50 vehicles sitting around hard to start only being started about once a month each I took the one with 90 more cranking amps. LOL

Maybe with that 90 more amps it will live the 2 years plus!

In all fairness I must say that I have some kinda old Everstart batteries that are still doing very well even aflter the 1 and 2 year free periods have expired. I think that was one bad egg or one badly abused battery, but still fight for your rights! FREE MEANS FREE!!! And IF they change model numbers YOU still have the RIGHT for the FREE replacement you PAID FOR!!!!

Mine was a car/truck battery this time, but I also have bought thier everstart 12V DEEP cycles, many years old and still going nicely though not used as much in recent years and sadly abused forgotten about in storage for awhile. But they did pulse charge out well and run the 5K inverter for awhile recently at the old trailer where now located.

This should be a Diary.

Well, I am glad you got your replacement battery.  People should stand behind there products.  If a promise is made, it should be kept.  Rich

Several years ago I worked with an old coot who had bought one of K-Mart's "lifetime" sealed auto batteries for his mustang, back in the 1970s.  He'd been getting free batteries for the past 30 years, about one every four or five years.  I did ask him if it mattered that the "exchange" he was receiving wasn't a "lifetime" battery, and he said that it only mattered that he hung onto his original receipt and warranty.
