Homebrew wind turbine workshop
« on: March 17, 2006, 09:07:07 PM »
This should be lots of fun.

http://www.the-mrea.org/workshops.php?id=1048457712

DanF (admin) and I and possibly George will head out East for 6 days to Mick Sagrillos shop for  the MREA (the Midwest Renewable Energy Association).  We'll bring lots of magnets/wire and have a good time for 6 days building a few wind turbines...  perhaps a pretty one, an ugly one  -  a little one and a big one!  I believe they're allowing 15 folks to attend... if anyones interested!  I expect we'll all learn some good stuff and have a good time.  I don't know details yet about camping/lodging but I believe most of that is available off the MREA website.

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.

We draw the line at I-25, anyone east of that lives on 'east side'. ;-)

Maybe, Maybe, Maybe, Wisconsin is near me, but North, not East.  I have a trip planned around that time and may be off from work for that whole period of time.  Unfortunately my travels will overlap the seminar a bit.  But, maybe, maybe, maybe. . .  Rich

Well, I could spit into Wisconsin nearly. Sure hope you at least do a drive by here. Would sure be fun to be there.

Just checked and Forestville is about 300 miles from here nearly in the UP of Michigan so it might make a good stopover on the way to recharge.

Anyway, as you already know, the welcome mat is always out here for you guys. The house is small but the property and the welcome are big.

Cheers.

Is that the Forestville on the Door Peninsula near Green Bay?  Green Bay is a five hour drive from this part of the UP.  Too far to commute.

Thats the one Mapquest spit out looked like it is right on the border or close. Never been there myself. Its about as far away from me as you can get in WI.

Not really on the border.  Iron Mountain is on the border and is a two hour drive.  It looks like it would be six hours to Forestville.  I visited the Door Peninsula once, took a look around at all the development and said "That's the future of the Keweenaw Peninsula" and it's coming true.  It's too bad man is the creature that has to foul up his nest.  Oh well, I'm ranting.  Thanks for the info.

Hello, I am new here and new at building wind turbines. I have a basic understanding on making a stator but I have a question about this ( copied and pasted from other power )

First we wind 1 test coil. Since this is a new design - I needed to make a test coil of the 'right size'. Then I can run that between the magnet rotors and get an idea of how many windings we need for a desired cut-in speed. Since this is planned to be a 17' machine, we want a cut-in speed around 70 - 80 rpm. This test coil consists of 79 turns of #13 wire.

How do you know the cutin speed should be 70 to 80 RPM by the size of the machine????

and how do you know how many turns you need in a coil ???

       Thanks in advance

       DJ
