Coil Placement
« on: December 16, 2006, 07:23:45 PM »
I'm currently taking the wire out of a 2 phase motor and I noticed that the coils are just directly on top of each other. Will this work for a three phase alt or is overlapping them half way better. Any comments would greatly help.

I think two coils on top of each other act as one coil(offset 0 degrees)

or when acting in the opposite direction they have offset 180°.

For three fase you need 120°.The placement of the coils depends the

poles/coils ratio and eventually the shape of the laminated core.

Thanks for replying after looking at a few diagrams that is pretty much what I figured. I'm building my first wind gen. Right now it has 6 round coils and 8 mags. I will test it out like that first thin I will add 6 more coils and thicker mags to cover the thickness or the coils.
