fitting a tacho to the Exmork
« on: March 02, 2011, 02:45:59 AM »
Hi Crew,,, Just thinking out aloud (dangerous,I know),
Anyhow,, does anyone know if there is a take-off point on the main board of the EXmork controller??

I'd like to fit an analogue meter .

Thanks

Bruce

Hi

have you tried a car type tacho across two of the phases (assuming star wound) I have had limited success with them myself (I had access to borrowing any number to play with) but you may have to recalibrate the scale.  Also the amplitude is low at low revs. An AC coupled transformer may help, ie. a capacitor between the turbine and the transformer, or if your into building things a simple amplifier, but if your going that far build a frequency counter kit and make your own scale.  You can't use voltage, it doesn't work once you get to cut in.

I now have a Snap On multimeter set to 6 Cyl 4 Stroke. Though to be honest I rarely look at it. There is more interest in the Ammeter.

Thanks Brian,

I'm hanging out for one of the many who may have done this exercise with their own Exmork.

I'll probably need a Cct so i can get it right . I'm fairly confident  EXmork would have a component on the board that they use for switching other components, so maybe this board component cane be tapped ,allbeit with the correct feedback diodes,Etc's.

Thanks Bruce.

Commanda's answered that question for you...

No one believes the theory except the one who developed it. Everyone believes the experiment except the one who ran it.
