ametek 38vdc wind turbine (modified)
« on: December 09, 2011, 03:51:18 PM »
http://youtu.be/ZSObsldlU-w

here is my modified wind turbine, compared to this 1     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IdPGtsE1V4

i have shortened the pvc blades by 3inches,inclined the motor, change the tail and others.

has been flying since 4 month without maintainance. output in normal 20-25kmph wind is 13.8v at 3amps......around 50 watts

can hit up to 6 amps or more in strong 40-50kmh winds

not bad.......

Great job with the PVC blades, I havnt seen too many people able to make those to spin fast enough to make any usable power from the 38 volt ametek. So I tip my hat to you and your blade making skills. May I please make a suggestion though? I have owned several of these 38 volt Ametek motors and they are really super little motors and tough to boot. And I have tryed just about everthing you can imagine for blades. The absolute best one I came up with was also extremely simple to make, balance, and mount. Take a 1x3 board 54 inches long and carve out a two bladed prop using pretty much the same plans shown on the otherpower.com web page for building blades only in miniature, and trust me you will not be disapointed. To balance you simply place the blade of a knife exactly in the center and whichever side it leans to you just shave off a little wood until perfect balance is achieved. I was able to get 72 volts open voltage from this blade and the Ametek motor in 30 MPH winds. Best of luck to you and again nice work.

I don't know if it's me and my video system, but it looks like when there's a lull in the wind the blades run backwards?

You have a rectifier between it and your batteries?

no,it doesn't run backwards,in fact, the blades are spinning so fast that the camera is not able to capture the motion thts why it seemed to spin backwards

.i've used 6mm thick 8'pvc pipe but i've trim the edges to make it more aerodynamic.
