Just Purchased a Heavy Duty Wind Turbine for $100
« on: May 09, 2021, 12:55:00 PM »
Just got an amazing deal on this 15 year old wind turbine which other than a couple of years use on a 16m tower has been kept in perfect dry conditions indoors.

https://youtu.be/7mu_7OM8mDg

Let me know what you think , anyone used a turbine like this , it's 24 volts and he said in winter it was regularly hitting 30 amps, The shaft turns very freely so no problems there, will be working out how to put it on the tower that I have, any comments / suggestions welcome.

That looks really good; pretty robust hub, mount....the blades look good.  No chance the guy has a manual, or anything on-line under the manuf, make, model?  That might answer a few questions.

Our original turbine, and many others we worked on, had a flat mounting flange at the top of the tower.  Typically they would match the bolt pattern and use threaded studs with a set of leveling nuts in between pairs of nuts & locknuts.  It seemed to work well.

Good luck with it.  ~ks

Many years ago I repaired one exactly like that and found the crappy bearing had worn the bearing journals so I bored them out and bushed them and replaced the bearings with some timken tapered roller bearing. The guy tried to rip me off by refusing point blank to pay for the work I did and I won't go into how I did get paid.

Now it would be advised to open it up and replace the bearings with some good brand ones just to be on the safe side.

Thanks man , I think its a Yangzhou Shenzhou wind turbine he said it was 500w but that in winter it hit 30amps on the controller regularly so I think by th size it may be a 1kw, I will put more videos up of this once I suss out how to get it on the tower.

Thanks for the good advice, with my poor record of taking stuff apart then scrapping it cos I messed up I will just run it as it is for now , any problems then I will have to take it apart but it's not something I want to do , watch this space.

So the beast wind turbine I purchased for $100 is up on the tower, I am very happy as I had to weld a big thing to mate the water pipe with the 6 holes at the bottom of the slip ring.

I am quite bunged up in the video as I think I got the kung flu, but hey just sharing, ANY COMMENTS ADVICE ALWAYS WELCOME !!!

free wheeling is alright every now and then , I got a controller with it , just haven't got round to it , took me a bit longer thean expected to make the tower thingy out of what I had lying around.

Cool system....what is a kung flu ?
These wind turbines must for that reason in a deeper sense be of a timeless beauty, so that they do not in three or four decades hence burden a later generation with a heavy task of removing angular skeletons.....

Thanks , it's on a 6m tower which I know isn't great but all homemade from cheap stuff and very solid, luckily I live in a non urban area.

Yes it's looking like a super bargain at $100 , I have a controller I need to wire up , the wind is very low at the moment it's just sat connected to a 24v battery via a power meter , it needs to get past the whooshing sound before it's producing at 24v, I can brake it at the rectifier or I have 2 600 watt dump loads, if the controller I got with it does its job properly then that will be a big plus.

I like using it, not sure about the general population.

The name kung flu is considered derogatory by many people.

In my opinion it is best to stay focus on alternative energy topics and avoid using names like that. It is good to maintain peace and harmony.

I think that you got a very nice deal on that turbine, let us know how it goes.
