Inverter trouble resolved
« on: December 02, 2004, 09:47:10 PM »
Well, my main inverter decided that it had had enough on Wednesday, so yesterday I did a little bit of shopping.  I'm a bit limited in having a 24V system, and this was the only affordably-priced inverter that might stand a chance of running my fridge:

Much to my surprise, it works just fine! (It's only a small bar-type refrigerator, the type that are about 2 feet tall).

Anyway, I also had a quick perusal of e-bay and managed to win this one for quite a reasonable price too!

(The neat thing about running a 24V system, with respect to e-bay at least, is that 24V inverters don't sem to attract much interest compared with 12V ones).

Back on track! :-D

Hi BTH,

Glad you have got it sorted. It's the same here on the UK Ebay- not a lot of interest in the 24 volt inverters. Most people want the 12 volt to use in cars and caravans. I picked up a 2.5 kWatt 24 volt which was faulty for 50 UK pounds. Cost me about 20 pounds to fix it so I got a virtually new 2.5 kWatt inverter worth over 500 pounds for 70!

Good to hear that you got your system working again. Very good price on the inverter. One things that was a bit strange on the ebay site was:

As this is modified sine wave, it's not avaiable for following appliances:

  1. refrig, can not over than 300w.
  2. electric drill can not be used.
  3. electric saw can not be used.
  4. air conditioner
  5. air pump, can not used.
  6. .fluorescent light can not be used.
  7. heater, not over than 1500w.

Mabye this is what scared off buyers? Seems like nonsense to me. I can power a drill off a 400 MSW inverter. What kind of results are you getting, ie what can this thing power?

I have no idea.  My cheapie 1800W mod-square inverter would run anything I plugged into it except my cement mixer and my air compressor.

My new inverter left Taipei on Saturday, so I'll report on how well it went when it arrives (probably early next week.)

I haven't had a problem.

But 90% of my tools time is grid power.

Some of the other tools I use are 100% inverter powered. These tend to be cheapies, and tend to get abused. No problems yet.

Well, technically speaking any one tool can only burn out ONCE... ;-)

But no, I haven't had any problems running things off an inverter.  However I'm not running a production line or anything, and whatever power tools I'm using get plenty of time to cool down.
