Solar project
« on: November 05, 2005, 06:25:18 PM »
Just a little something I've been working on this summer as time allows.

This 10X12 solar room will have almost all glass on the south and west sides. Southside glass are patio doors leaning against the house. In addition it will have 3 solar hotwater pannels in the south facing roof.

Just alittle update on what all those solar panel questions were for. I'll keep you posted on progress hope to have it all down befor our second snow storm(we've alreadyhad one). Should fil in fast now 2/3 of it are glass panels.

Do you plan to pipe the hot air into the house?

And you need a taller tower! hehe.

Wiseguy, I'm glad it's still on that one, about two weeks ago one of my old Jerry blades broke off, Hence the black and yellow color skeem(i know that's spelled wrong) with the green blades. Haven't painted um black yet. Once their tuned and tested(and painted) and all is well with the cosmos it will be mounted on a pole attached to the sunroom, best I can do right now is about 10' over the peak. Not the greatest but there's still alot better wind than on the current mount. That will free up my test tower(I use the term losely) for my next genny 3hp baldor conversion. Still under construction.

The set of doors (in background of pic #1) open into the kitchen. For now doors will be open durring the day for a natural flow. I may ad a fan at sometime, don't know yet. Also solar panels will be heating water connected to an old 40 gallon hot water heater and radiant heat under kitchen floor, it's the coldest room in the house in the winter, little sun and farthest from the wood stove. Hopefully this will all help out with this winters heating bills.

Wildbill;

 If you're looking for an easy way to put in a fan or two for ventilation. I've found that some of those cheap VCR or better VCPs have real nice low power DC motors in them. I took a couple of the solar panels off the lawn lights and hooked them up for higher voltage and then at first hooked the leads right to the motor and away it turned. Those little motors will turn with less than 5Vdc so I went and found an old 6" broken fan and mounted it on the motor. This way the fan doesn't turn until the sun is at a point where it's got the panels putting out enough to turn the motor and then fan doesn't run pushing cold air around.

Hope this helps;

Bruce S
