minnie alt-400 watt-28v-pedgen
« on: August 28, 2009, 10:53:53 AM »
found this little motor when i cleaned out the basement-it was a 1/3hp single phase.

now - 8 and 6 combo-but with 12 coils-two sixs-wired in star[both]..

two mags per pole[neos]--42 winds per coil on the outer coils--32 on inner coils..

mags are not angled-you can feel each lam as you slowly turn the shaft[24]..

no real cogging -untill you short the alt out--then its real hard to turn over by hand.

time to try it out on the pedgen..first i hooked up 3 50watt headlites to it--wasnt

easy but not really that much of a strain...hmmm dug out my 400-1000watt dual element

28v aircraft landing light..been trying to lite that sucker up for some time now!!!

first try i hooked it up to the 400 watt clips--jumped on the pedgen--started off

kinda slow and let the speed build up--dammed if i didnt hit 27-30volts..

fun toy..it has no bearings just bushings..never thought i would get that much power

from such a small motor!---1000watts dream on-only got up to 13 volts -volt meter

would clime no higher even with a faster RPM...........

heres a few picts and a vid link............

Hi, very nice. I really liked the video. What are the RPM's at the PMA?

Nice hiker, and a very respectable output.

Where did the coil wire come from?  Wiring harness?

Great work hiker. Do you have an amp meter to place in this test?

I would get a kid to push the peddels while you run the camera.

Good to see your still building proggects like this.

Zubbly (RIP) is pleased I'm sure.

Nice job there hiker.

I bet you're the only person in the world with that fancy colored magnet wire ;-).

I suppose you got to use that new lathe to turn the rotor down, if you did how did it go? Give some spec's on the turning.

fishbonz...

thats not magnet wire--just a old spool of plastic insulated wire i had laying around..like 5 strands--had to unweave each strand to make the coils[boring]..

still havent found a good hard bit for my lathe--being it was such a small rotor

i used a hacksaw--didnt really take that long...

i did use the lathe to turn down the wooden pully-work great for that....

not sure what size that wire is--maybe 19-21 ??

hey jerry..

i do have a meter--just have to borrow it off of my pedgen..

would be nice to see the actual amps.

would have to have the kids run the camera -if i did any more tests with the

landing light--takes a lot of hard cranking to hit 27-30volts..

glad to see you back as well--been keepin a eye on all your tests as well...

for me its just a hobby--but for a lot a pepole its a real thing...

kilOdin.

no idea on the rpms--my spedo was hitting over 30+ mph.........

that old exersize bike is geared kinda high--had to have a fairly big pulley on

the alt to spin it over-could use a slightly bigger one--there easy to make--just

cut out some plywood disks and bolt togeather...........

Yeah, I was just pullin' your chain on the wire.

I use the center bit for my rotor turning.

My tool post is only 1/4" though, yours could be 5/16".
