Ouch!!!!!! and Ouch again!!!
« on: July 18, 2005, 07:53:54 PM »
how do,

I just thought you guys were being overly protective or just protectin your A_ _.

But I just got the magnets in from forcefield and Ouch!!!   I pulled the first batch out and set it aside and pulled the next batch wrapped in cardboard and started to set it aside when the first batch from nearly a foot away came flyin thru the air and squished my little pinky!  OUCH!!!

After pullin those two apart I got those two apart I got the other two out and suddenly the knife I used to open the box came flyin at my hand, fortunatly it was the butt that hit the magnets but I jerked my hand back thinkin I just lost a finger and got that batch of magnets too close to another batch and OUCH!!! another squished finger.

Next time you folks say dsomethin I'm all ears!

AMEN, Bro' - - - ; When you start working with individual magnets, you develop some techniques for separating them (push against a stop with a piece of wood), but if you are careless and they snap together with a pinch of skin between them, the resulting wound takes weeks to heal. (!) I'm trying to find some bronze or stainless tools.

When magnets snap together, They can break into a large number of pieces. At that point thay are a buncha magnet bits with all the norths together, and all the souths together and they explode . . .

Believe me ,  I know !?

I like to share my story too.

I was working on a pair of 17" rotors with 20 pieces of magnets on each of them.  After putting all magnets together, I wanted to see how these magnets on the 2 rotors aligned.  I mistakenly brought the 2 rotors too close to each other.  They snaped my fingers on both hands.  I tried the best I could to separate them but failed.  I eventually had to shout for help.  With the help of 3 people, the 2 rotors separated and my fingers hurt for a week .

So, be very careful when handling them.

My grandfather said he found two speaker magnets in his basement, each about 5" in diameter. He said that they got close together at some point, and slammed together, sounding like a gun going off. He had to carefully use two crowbars and a vice to separate them. These are just ceramic magnets too.

I've gotten pinched with small ceramic magnets already

Neodymium magnets are just insane, and can literally be very dangerous. Put a bunch of them together on a small wheel, like for a wind generator project, and they can probably crush small bones if two wheels fly at each other.

Shoot, I've gotten pinched pretty good with my ceramic microwave magnets. If you had a few slam together it would be dangerous as well.

If any of you fellows have a pacemaker implanted, get a helper to mess with your magnets, even the ceramics! They do a lot more than pinch fingers, and can scare hell out of you.

Well it's a good thing bolts, screws, plates, ect... arent made out of anything magnetic. O_O A neo could give you one hell of a headache if you had a magnetic metal plate in your head. ;-)

I had some small neos delivered to work. It kept my colleagues amused all days. Every now and then there would be a 'snap' followed by 'eeeee' from my desk as I played with them.
