Solar panels of alternative shapes
« on: April 12, 2005, 08:49:36 PM »
I'm searching for any information regarding the shape of solar panels.

I am currently in the process of designing a light powered by solar energy. The research I have done so far has indicated that the majority of solar panels take the shape of a square or rectangular form. I have seen on one occasion a solar pannel taking the form of a circle.

Does anyone one know if it is possible to create or buy solar panels in custom shapes? I am trying to maintain a certain aethetic to my design.

They are cutable so I'm sure you can custom order some, though I would think they would be VERY expensive. Just do a "custom shape solar cells" google search.

although it is in the testing stages, the university of toronto,i believe it was, has come up with a film, much like paint from what i understand, and it will make anything that can be painted, a solar device...i am sure this is way in the future, but just a thought to look for in a while..some folks here have previously posted on this technique.it is supposed to revolutionize the solar industry   pickster

Custom shapes? Double duty w/ neon tubes for an after-dark billboard?
