Two fiberglas wind turbine in one tower
« on: August 29, 2006, 02:54:22 PM »
Hello everyone, it's been a while now that I have not post and as promised will post pictures of the crank-up tower being lowered. Lately I installed a Hugh 4 foot turbine in the lower section of the 10 footer and is side mounted. These are all fiberglas made (blades, nose cone and tail). The 10 footer has been serving me for quite some time now without any problem. It has been putting out good amperes even in the slightest wind here in the Philippines. My next build is a 16 footer and this will be in fiberglas composite materials. Like what DanB said this is an endless project.

  1. foot fiberglas wind turbine in the 25 section of crank-up tower. All section of the tower are lowered for easy installation. Work are all done in the 20 ft section in the workcage

  2. foot wind turbine in 40 ft section of crank-up tower. The 4 footer will be mounted on the side of the tower

Two fiberglas wind turbine, a 10 footer on the 75 ft section and a 4 footer on the 60 ft section of the crank-up tower

This is the power output of the 10 footer in a 15.3 mph wind in my 12 volts battery bank

That has given me an idea. A vawt on the bottom and a hawt on an extended tower above. Damn! now I have to redesign everything all over again. A this rate I'll never finish the prototype. Thanks for the idea.

Hi Skyking01,

Now I can see your crank up design is like a fire engine laddle going up one section by one section the last and most heavy section goes last right? Ingenious and must be a lot of welding work. I must say to produce a hand powered crank is a great achievement as the ones I see working here are all powered by the engine and how those engine roar when working the crank to raise the laddes or crane. Wish I can see more detail of your crank than shown in your previous posting.

Thank you all for your comments and sorry for the blurred pictures. Here are additional photos of the small wind turbine and tower.

Excellent work! Have you seen a tower like that before or is that an original idea of yours? How long have you been working on the whole project? I was thinking of making a four foot machine too. I think it would work great out on the ice shanty.

Thanks, have been fabricating and installing communication towers way back in the 80's and first seen this tilt crank-up tower in CQ magazine. There was lot of work in the design back then, no computers and internet so have to compute everything manually. It took me more than 2 months for this new setup to complete, tower and wind turbine. So while waiting for the magnets, charge controller and inverter to arrived from the US I started working on the tower. You could search my diary for some more pictures of the 10 foot turbine and homemade mechanical winch.

Only 2 months to fabricate and assemble?

You really did a great job in that short of time. Congratulations !!

That's quick work you must have worked full time on it to get it done that fast. I remember your first post when you got it up. The pictures are great!
